FAQ

Why are there no beverages?

You’re on your own when it comes to drinks and exercise. What I want to help with is the chess game that is getting all 18 recommended food servings without getting to dinner time and realizing that you still need to eat just fruit and beans. Speaking of which…

What do you mean “out of 18 servings”?

There are a total of 18 recommended ‘servings’ of food. They are:

  • 3 beans
  • 1 berries
  • 3 other fruits
  • 1 cruciferous vegetables
  • 2 greens
  • 2 other vegetables
  • 1 flaxseed
  • 1 nuts
  • 1 spices
  • 3 whole grains

The definition of a serving differs depending on the item. I encourage you to download the app Dr. Greger’s Daily Dozen, which is available for both apple and android devices. It has everything you need to keep track of your daily intake.

What’s with the minimalist recipe instructions that barely explain anything?

I’m working on the basic assumption that you have the skill-set required to make these relatively simple meals, not to be a pompous ass but to make my life easier. If you don’t understand something or have questions about the cooking methods I’ve used, or amounts of things I’ve left unspecified, don’t feel bad! Just ask me or google. One of us will be able to help you out.

How closely do I have to follow the serving sizes?

Not that closely, I think. How much you need to eat will depend on a lot of things, including your own basic caloric needs and your day-to-day activity levels. The serving sizes I use are based on Dr. Greger’s Daily Dozen app.

What about oil and vegan butter & all that lovely fatty stuff?

Using none is best, but I haven’t yet attained that goal personally. I’ve made drastic reductions recently, and so one of the reasons I want the recipes on this website to be minimalist is to make you feel like you’ve got a lot of freedom to make them your own. I just want to help you get everything you need nutritionally.

Do you, like, work for Dr. Greger or something?

No. I’m doing this because I care.

Why are all the meal plans for only one person?

It’s so easy to multiply everything by 2 or 3 or however many people you’ll be cooking for, and I wanted to make the serving calculations simple for the purpose of content creation.
